Plot Synopsis

While homeowners are out of the house for approximately five hours, Amy Matthews and her RENOVATION RAIDERS team perform makeovers that include major improvements, like tearing down a load-bearing wall or installing a brand-new staircase. First, Amy and her team gather intel from an accomplice, one of the homeowners who is in on the ambush. To prepare for the makeover, the team conducts a dry run to anticipate any issues that could arise during the real renovation. As the couple leaves their home, Matthews and crew sweep in to execute the design plan. To keep the couple away -- and buy more time for renovations -- the crew relies on a spy who reports the homeowners' exact whereabouts and finds creative ways to stall the couple by hiding their keys or blocking their car by double parking. Then, the unsuspecting couple pulls in the driveway to learn that their home has been transformed in the time it took to do dinner and a movie. Each 60-minute episode features a different five-hour renovation, including: a cramped and outdated kitchen that is transformed when the team demolishes a wall and erects a new center island for a Minneapolis couple; a suburban basement that is converted into a library/family room with wood floors, shelf-lined walls and a cozy stone fireplace; a kitchen and dining area that is remodeled by tearing down a wall, ripping out the old kitchen, and installing brand new cabinets, a kitchen island with a built-in dog house and beer keg refrigerator; a living-room redo that includes a brand-new staircase where there used to be a wall; and many more outrageous projects that surprise ambushed homeowners.
