Plot Synopsis

Created and directed by John Singleton, REBEL is a one-hour series that follows Rebel Knight, an Oakland, CA, police officer who leaves the force after being under an intense Internal Affairs/criminal investigation for shooting her partner, Mack, in the hopes of stopping him from gunning down her little brother, Malik. While on the force, Rebel solved more homicides in the last three years than any detective on the force, but that fact had little bearing on the Internal Affairs investigation. Now, Rebel continues to fight crime as a private investigator, while struggling with her brother's murder while defending herself from the dirty cops who are out for revenge. Rebel's loyal & sassy long-term best friend, Cheena, reluctantly gets pulled into Rebel's investigation. Meanwhile, Rebel's father, Rene, is a strong, but broken man who loves Rebel dearly, but blames her for the death of her brother Malik, and he turns to alcohol to numb his sadness while trying to make Malik's life stand for something. Plus, Rebel's ex-husband, TJ, still loves her -- even though they separated after he wanted kids and she didn't -- but now he just wants her to be comfortable being vulnerable around him all while he tries to commit to a new life with a new girl and a new job. And Lt. Charles Gold, Rebel's friend and mentor, is split between representing his police force and supporting. All Charles wants is to save the Oakland Police Department, but knows he cannot please everybody. BET premiered REBEL on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 10pm-Midnight ET/PT, showing the two-hour season opener.
