Plot Synopsis

By combining footage from VIKINGS with documentary filmmaking, stars of VIKINGS join experts in Europe to dive deep into the history and archaeology that inspires the drama, revealing a never-before-seen view of what Vikings were really like. From test driving Viking longships to exploring the legendary roots of Ragnar Lothbrok, this companion series gets the scoop on Vikings from some of the world's top researchers of that era. In the season opener, "Age of Invasion," VIKINGS star Clive Standen travels across Europe with experts to discover how the Vikings were able to invade England and France. Then, in the second installment, "Rise of the Pagans," Standen and fellow VIKINGS star Maude Hirst travel to Scandinavia to explore the pagan beliefs and warrior culture of the Vikings -- and dispel myths about their violent society. In the third episode, "Viking Women," VIKINGS cast members Katheryn Winnick and Alyssa Sutherland join leading experts in an investigation of the different roles women played within Norse society -- and they are surprised at what they discover.
