Plot Synopsis

Ray Johnston, former NBA summer-league player with the Dallas Mavericks and cancer survivor, is touring America with his band to try to make it in the music business while raising money for leukemia research. Ray continues his battle against leukemia, which was first diagnosed and he was injured in a 2004 pick-up baskeball game, subsequently ending up in a coma. When he came out of his coma, the leukemia was in remission -- only to recur in 2006 and 2007. Now, he's pursuing his dream of being a musician. The Ray Johnston Band recorded its first album, Sweet Tooth, in August 2009, and this series documents the band on its cross-country tour. Some of the band's performances will be fundraisers for The Ryan Gibson Foundation (TRGF), and Ray will always be spreading the word about the importance of leukemia research and finding a cure.
