Plot Synopsis

The Chance family adds Hope into their terribly flawed family. Jimmy Chance was a twentysomething slacker who skimmed pools for a living, partied every night, and lived at home with his family: father Bart, mother Virginia, and Maw Maw. One day Jimmy visited the local prison and saw Lucy -- a woman with whom he had a chance romantic encounter just nine months earlier -- and discovered she had his baby. Charged with raising his new daughter, he found his family less than enthusiastic about a new addition to the household. His parents had Jimmy when they were only 15-years-old and weren't interested in raising a child this time either, but his mother thought they should name her Hope. With very few useful skills but their hearts in the right place, the Chance family worked together to raise Hope. Jimmy eventually took a job at Howdy's Supermarket, where Sabrina, the girl of his dreams, worked. In Season 3, Jimmy married Sabrina and the young couple moved into their own home, but the found they still needed Jimmy's parents to help them raise Hope. To make ends meet, Jimmy and Sabrina still work together at Howdy's Supermarket, under the supervision of their goofy manager, Barney. In Season 4, Virginia and Burt find new adventures to fill the void of their empty nest, with only Maw Maw left in the house. Jimmy and Sabrina navigate many new firsts, both as newlyweds and as co-parents. Jimmy takes a stab at having a career as an artist, and Barney reels over major changes at Howdy's market, including a new owner. Hope's world starts to expand as she enters pre-school and makes new friends in the neighborhood. She may be getting older and wiser, but her family remains as lovingly dysfunctional as ever. RAISING HOPE ended its four-season run with a special one-hour farewell on Friday, April 4, 2014 from 9-10pm ET/PT on Fox. In the first-part of the series finale, Jimmy and Sabrina were surprised to learn that Sabrina's late grandmother left them a family maid, portrayed by guest star Lesley Nicol from DOWNTON ABBEY. Then, in the night's second episode, Virginia's dad returns to Natesville with a big surprise for her and Burt, including a musical performance by Kenny Loggins.
