Plot Synopsis

This two-part special goes inside Chicago's Cook County Jail to reveal the struggles of women who give birth while being detained, as doctors, obstetricians, and social workers help them through every critical milestone of pregnancy and early motherhood. Whether they're requesting house arrest to prepare for birth, working to secure visitation rights, or struggling with the adoption process, these prisoners -- some hardened gang members and some drug addicts -- all have one thing in common: they want the best life possible for their unborn and newly born children. Discovery Fit & Health aired two, 60-minute episodes of PREGNANT BEHIND BARS on consecutive Thursdays at 10pm ET/PT, starting on August 22, 2013.
