Plot Synopsis

Based on characters created by author Erle Stanley Gardner, this drama series follows the origins of American fiction's most legendary criminal defense lawyer, Perry Mason, who is a low-rent private investigator who is living check-to-check and is haunted by his wartime experiences in France and suffering the effects of a broken marriage. It's 1931 in Los Angeles, and while the rest of the country struggles through the Great Depression, this city is booming. And a child kidnapping gone very, very wrong. When the case of the decade breaks down his door, Mason's relentless pursuit of the truth reveals a fractured city and just maybe, a pathway to redemption for himself. Other characters in this series include: Elias Birchard 'E.B.' Jonathan, a struggling attorney and a semi-regular employer of Mason; Della Street, E.B. Jonathan's creative and driven legal secretary; Sister Alice McKeegan, the leader of the Radiant Assembly of God, preaching to a hungry congregation and a radio audience across the country; Paul Drake, a beat cop with a knack for detective work; Pete Strickland, who is hired by Mason as an extra set of eyes on his various investigations; and more.

PERRY MASON returned for its second season on Monday, March 6, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT on HBO. Season 2 picks up months after the Dodson case has come to an end, when the scion of a powerful oil family is brutally murdered. When the DA goes to the city's Hoovervilles to pinpoint the most obvious of suspects, Perry, Della, and Paul find themselves at the center of a case that will uncover far reaching conspiracies and force them to reckon with what it truly means to be guilty. The season opener, "Chapter Nine," takes place in 1933. In the months following the Dodson trial, an aimless Perry leans on Della to keep the law firm afloat. While Paul accepts a job from an unlikely source, corrupt oil scion Brooks McCutcheon recruits Detective Holcomb in his quest to reshape the future of Los Angeles.

On Monday, April 24, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT, HBO premiered "Chapter Sixteen," the Season 2 finale of PERRY MASON. As their final day in court nears, Mateo and Rafael prepare for the worst, while Perry, Della, and Paul work with an unlikely ally to sway the prosecution's hand. Then, after making his closing arguments, Perry faces the consequences of his relentless pursuit of justice.
