Plot Synopsis
Dr. Daniel Pierce is a neuroscientist and professor recruited to help the federal government crack difficult cases. His intimate knowledge of human behavior and masterful understanding of the mind give him an extraordinary ability to read people, but his eccentric view of the world and less-than-stellar social skills can often interfere with his work. Plus, he struggles with hallucinations and paranoid delusions brought on by his schizophrenia, which occasionally allow him to make connections that his conscious mind can't yet process. At other times, the hallucinations become Daniel's greatest curse, leading him to behave in irrational, potentially dangerous ways, making it difficult for him to achieve the close friendships and intimate relationships. When he becomes overwhelmed, only his favorite music and a crossword puzzle have the power to make things right again. Pierce works with: FBI agent Kate Moretti, Pierce's former student who asks him to consult on certain cases and is willing to look past Daniel's peculiarities; Max Lewicki, his teaching assistant, whose primary job is to keep Pierce in line and on task, whether that means grading midterms or laying out Pierce's wardrobe; Natalie Vincent, Daniel's best friend, who is every bit his intellectual equal; and Paul Haley, a dean at the university and Pierce's friend.
