Plot Synopsis

In OPRAH PRIME, which was called OPRAH'S NEXT CHAPTER for the show's first two seasons, Oprah Winfrey travels around the world, talking with real people, newsmakers, celebrities and thought leaders. During the first season, Oprah travels to: visit musical legend Steven Tyler at his tranquil New Hampshire getaway; have a slumber party at Southern chef Paula Deen's Georgia estate; visit a small town in Iowa know as the Transcendental Meditation capital of the world; and experience what life is like within a Hassidic Jewish community in Brooklyn, New York. Oprah's most anticipated episodes for this series featured her interview with disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong, as he discussed allegations about using performance-enhancing drugs and performing blood doping during his career. The 2.5-hour Lance Armstrong interview aired in two parts on Thursday, Jan. 17 and Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 at 9pm ET each night.

This series returned for its third season on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN. In the Season 3 premiere, which marked the series name change from OPRAH'S NEXT CHAPTER to OPRAH PRIME, Oprah delved into the deep impact of drug addiction with an intimate one-on-one conversation with Russell Brand who described his experience as a recovering addict. Brand shared his personal thoughts on addiction, his hope for a more compassionate perception of those struggling with drug addiction, and how the recent passing of Philip Seymour Hoffman has caused him to reflect on his own sobriety. Oprah also uncovered the startling personal stories of a mom of two and a former college athlete who both say they began using heroin following an addiction to prescription pills. They each shared the devastating effects of drugs on themselves as well as their family and friends.
