Plot Synopsis

A reimagining of the Norman Lear classic from the '70s and '80s, ONE DAY AT A TIME centers on a Cuban-American family. Penelope is a recently separated, former military mom navigating a new single life while raising her radical teenaged daughter Elena and socially adept tween son Alex -- all with the "help" of her old school Cuban-born mom Lydia and a friends-without-benefits building manager named Schneider. On Friday, January 6, 2017 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Netflix released the 13-episode first season of ONE DAY AT A TIME, which was executive produced by Norman Lear, who developed the original 1974-84 series.

The sophomore season of ONE DAY AT A TIME premiered on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Netflix released the entire 13-episode second season. In the new season, Penelope returns to school and finds romance, Alex gets an office job, Elena starts dating, Lydia lets go of the past, and Schneider becomes a mentor. In the season opener, "The Turn," Penelope worries about changes she sees in Alex, who gets in trouble at school. Elena wonders if others are misidentifying her based on her appearance.

Season 3 of ONE DAY AT A TIME premiered on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Netflix released the entire 13-episode new season. In the third season, Penelope studies to become a nurse practitioner, Elena and Syd grow closer, Alex gets punished, Lydia tackles a bucket list, and Schneider falls in love. In the season opener, "Funeral," Penelope urges Lydia to end a petty feud with her sister at a relative's funeral, and Elena wonders if her cousin Pilar is gay.

For its fourth season, ONE DAY AT A TIME moved from Netflix to Pop TV, premiering on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at 9:30pm ET/PT. This season finds Penelope exploring a surprising relationship, her mother Lydia experiencing a religious crisis -- as well as revealing the details of her surprise trip to Cuba with Dr. Berkowitz, and Schneider finding his relationship with Avery growing deeper. Meanwhile, Elena begins to prepare for college and Alex starts to date. In the season opener, "Checking Boxes," a census taker, Brian (guest star Ray Romano), comes to the house, causing the Alvarez family to reflect on their relationships, and what else the future may, or may not, have in store.
