Plot Synopsis

NOR'EASTER MEN follows the captains and crews of four ground-fishing vessels, who trawl the rough, but highly profitable, waters of Georges Bank in January, one of the best times to fish the North Atlantic, as they battle storms, cold and exhaustion to bring their catch to market. But the best month for fishing is also prime time for Nor'easters, powerful storms that can generate hurricane force winds and waves that top 40 feet. Each season is a race to see who can come back to market with the biggest and most lucrative haul of fish, while surviving broken generators, broken booms, greenhorns who aren't ready for life at sea, and even crew mutiny. The four captains are: Dave Haggerty (aka "Haddock King"), the captain of the F/V Harmony, which is an 85-foot trawler out of Portland, ME; Shawn Machie, captain of the F/V Apollo, who is a third-generation fisherman, fishing since the Summer of 1979, having previously skippered F/V Sonya Gwen, F/V Xiphias, and F/V Miss (renamed F/V Chrismar); John Oliviera, captain of the F/V Triunfo, who heads out of New Bedford, MA; and Gus Sanfilippo, captain of the F/V Lily Jean -- an 80-foot fishing vessel named for his daughter -- who hauled in 30,000 pounds of pollock, redfish and a little bit of haddock in this series. The night this series premiered, History aired three, one-hour episodes back-to-back from 8 - 11pm ET.
