Plot Synopsis

Executive produced by and starring Ali Wentworth, NIGHTCAP is a scripted comedy series that takes a satirical look at the late-night TV landscape, set behind the scenes of the fictitious talk show "Nightcap With Jimmy." Each half-hour episode covers the hectic 22 minutes prior to a live airing of "Nightcap," which are fraught with insanity, urgency, absurdity, laughter and lip-sync rehearsals. Plus, A-list celebrities stop by each week -- just as they would on any real-life talk show -- only this time, viewers get an exaggerated look at the hilarity backstage. On Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 10:35pm ET/PT, Pop premiered a quarter-hour sneak peek of NIGHTCAP, which officially debuted the following day at 8pm with back-to-back new episodes featuring guest stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos and Andy Cohen in the series opener, and Gwyneth Paltrow, Jim Norton and Nate Berkus in episode two. Other celebrity guests in Season 1 include Paul Rudd, Beth Stern, Debra Messing, Whoopi Goldberg, George Stephanopoulos, Denis Leary, Michael J. Fox, Mark Cuban, Jim Gaffigan, Janeane Garofalo, Mariska Hargitay, Tim Gunn, Rosie Perez, Jason Biggs, GiGi Gorgeous, Mario Batali, and Joel Schumacher. On Wednesday, June 7, 2017 from 8-9pm ET/PT, Pop premiered the 10-episode second season of NIGHTCAP, showing back-to-back new episodes. This season, Jason Tottenham joins the cast as Davis, a cool, unflappable talent consultant and "fresh pair of eyes" brought in by the network to help Staci bring "Nightcap with Jimmy" to the next level. The season opener (8pm), "Out of the Box," features celebrity guests Julianna Margulies, Dr. Oz, and Rojo Perez. The Nightcap staff is adjusting to their new studio next to Dr. Oz, as well as an unexpected new co-worker, Davis Maxfield, sent by the network to do the exact same job as Staci. Davis ruffles feathers when he tells Staci to bump Julianna Margulies in favor of a YouTube unboxing star. Then, celebrity guests Alec & Hilaria Baldwin and Dr. Oz appear in the night's second new episode (8:30pm), "Match Game." Alec and Hilaria Baldwin go out of their way to be empathetic when Staci reveals she had a minor cancerous mole removed. Staci confuses their kindness as sexual interest and propositions them for a threesome. Additional celebrity guests in Season 2 include: Julianne Moore, Brooke Shields, Christie Brinkley, Brendan Fraser, Bob Saget, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, David Hasselhoff, Kelly Rutherford, Juju Chang, Barbara Corcoran, Donny Deutsch, Kerry Coddett, Ross Mathews, Michael Strahan, Cedric the Entertainer, Rachel Bloom, Naked Cowboy, Debra Messing, Carrot Top, Bethenny Frankel, J.J. Abrams, Mark Hamill, and Rachael Ray.

Pop premiered the Season 2 finale of NIGHTCAP on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 8pm ET/PT, featuring celebrity guests J.J. Abrams, Mark Hamill, Christie Brinkley, and Rachael Ray. In the season ender, "The Show Might Go On (Part 2)," Staci pitches a movie to director J.J. Abrams; Penny begs Staci to save the show; Staci offers up TV show host Rachael Ray as an appealing new love interest for fame-hungry Christie Brinkley; actor Mark Hamill shows up to discuss Staci's new film.
