Plot Synopsis

Host/comedian/writer/web pundit Chris Hardwick and his team of nerd experts -- co-hosts comic/writer Jonah Ray and writer/producer Matt Mira as well as special celebrity guests -- discuss nerdy topics and interview stars of television, movies and comedy. BBC America aired a 30-minute pilot of THE NERDIST on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 10pm ET/PT, before airing the first of seven specials in December 2011. In this first special, airing on December 24, Hardwick was joined by in-studio guests Nathan Fillion, Wil Wheaton, and Kumail Nanjiani to review the best of the US and the UK's top nerd moments of 2011. After airing a second special in January 2012, THE NERDIST specials didn't return until July 28, 2012, when BBC America aired five 'Tribute' specials on four consecutive Saturdays. BBC America picked up THE NERDIST as a series, premiering on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT with these guests: WILD THINGS' Dominic Monaghan; DOCTOR WHO's Matt Smith & Jenna-Louise Coleman; ORPHAN BLACK's Tatiana Maslany; and comedian Matt Kirshen. Other celebrity guests for the first season included: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, Elijah Wood, Katee Sackhoff, Michael Rooker, Guillermo Del Toro, Gillian Jacobs, Robert Kirkman, Buzz Aldrin, Karen Gillan, and Bobak Ferdowski. Plus, Chris welcomed these comedians throughout Season 1: Ron Funches, Rob Hubel, Kyle Kinane, Natasha Leggero, and Paul Scheer.
