Plot Synopsis

NAVAJO COPS follows officers who protect the largest Indian reservation in America, having to patrol more than 17 million acres while protecting 180,000 people with a proud heritage and age-old customs. These men and women must deal with big-city crime -- like gangs, drugs, murders, suicides, rapes, domestic violence prostitution, and human trafficking -- while also protecting wildlife, cultural landmarks, and endangered archaeological sites. Plus, cameras follow these cops in their personal lives, showing their culture and traditions in communities in New Mexico (Shiprock; Crownpoint) and Arizona (Window Rock; Kayenta; Chinle; Tuba City). Whether they are investigating attacks by supernatural powers known as Skinwalkers, finding a bag of bloody gloves and a shallow grave after responding to a report of gunfire, or backing up fellow officers at a traffic stop, these cops protect the Navajo people while preserving their ancient way of life. Nat Geo first aired NAVAJO COPS as a one-hour special on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 8pm ET.
