Plot Synopsis

Meet the Alpha Moms, headed by Amanda, very much the queen bee. Everything is organised, clean and sparkly -- even the kitchen cork board is a statement of success. At the other end of the spectrum, we meet Liz, who is totally chaotic and feels the kids should enjoy free expression -- if they want to do kamikaze jumps of the sofa, she drags a mattress round for safety. Somewhere between Amanda and Liz is Julia -- she is organised -- she has to be as she is a successful events organiser -- but when her mother Marion decides she is no longer going to be the free child-sitter and school-run taxi, Julia finds her organisation skills are taxed and nowhere near the level of the Alpha Moms. Also in the mix is Kevin -- he is the stay-at-home dad, who, rather than fighting against that, is embracing it with gusto -- much to the irritation of the other mums. MOTHERLAND had its U.S. premiere on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as SundanceNow released all seven episodes, including the 2016 pilot and the six-episode 2017 BBC Two series.

On Tuesday, November 12, 2019, SundanceNow released all six episodes of MOTHERLAND's second season, marking the season's U.S. debut. As the school year begins, a new mum at the school gates attracts the attention of Julia, Liz and Kevin.
Season 3 of MOTHERLAND had its U.S. debut on Thursday, July 8, 2021, as SundanceNow released the entire six-episode new season. In the new season, Julia's elderly mother Marion has moved in thanks to failing health, so Julia is faced with the prospect of granny proofing her house. The only silver lining to this horror arrives in the form of Julia's new builder who turns out to be quite the DILF. Meanwhile, Amanda navigates the humiliation of divorce from Johnny, single mum Liz launches herself back into the world of work, and Kevin tries everything to rekindle the spark with wife Jill. Highflyer Meg faces big health issues and Anne has to cope with a growing family. All this while the moms grapple with Mother's Day, the looming choice of secondary schools, a nit pandemic, and the school trip from hell.
