Plot Synopsis

Host Don Wildman travels across America, revealing hidden mysteries about statues, memorials, national parks, gravestones and sculptures, which commemorate notorious crimes, scandals, disasters and intriguing events. In each one-hour episode, Wildman visits three different monuments, including these locations in Season 1: the Exeter, RI tombstone of a young woman, 19-year-old Mercy 'Lena' Brown, who may have haunted a small New England town -- and many believed to be a vampire; New York City's Brooklyn Bridge and General Grant National Memorial, for which George Parker acted as the owner, selling the iconic monuments to unsuspecting businessmen and immigrants; Alcactraz, where Theodore Cole and Ralph Roe were the first two prisoners to successfully make it to the shore of the San Francisco Bay after breaking out of The Rock in 1937; The Statue of the Republic, commemorating the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, which reminds some passers-by of a man going by the name of H.H. Holmes, who built a 'hotel' where he lured young women -- most of whom never came out; New York's Chrysler Building, which was once the site of a stunning display of an architectural chicanery; a huge clock on the island of Hawaii, where the hands are forever frozen in time following a tsunami that hit Hilo Bay on May 23, 1960; and many more landmarks with tales to tell. MONUMENTAL MYSTERIES returned for its second season on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on Travel Channel. In the Season 2 opener, Don Wildman encounters a majestic mammoth -- and popular tourist attraction of Margate City -- that boasts an incredible tale of survival; and investigates an iconic landmark that was at the center of terrifying explosive attacks; unveils an abandoned camp with a sinister past. On Friday, July 3, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, Travel Channel premiered the third season of this series, which returned with a new title: MYSTERIES AT THE MONUMENT. In the season opener, "Destiny Stone, Niagra Falls, Madness of Mary Todd," Don visits a famous London church that set the stage for an audacious heist; a natural wonder that Mother Nature herself threatened to shut down; and a prison that once housed a famous first lady.
