Plot Synopsis

This scripted comedy, based on Marc Maron's life and WTF podcast, follows Marc as he struggles to maintain relationships other than the ones with his podcast audience and his beloved trio of cats. Whether he's visited by his dysfunctional father living in an RV, dating a dominatrix to compensate for his complicated feelings for his ex-wife, or tracking down an internet troll who blasts him on Twitter, Marc often makes disastrous choices, which provide a never-ending stream of stories for his podcast. Guests in Season 1 included: Mark Duplass; Illeana Douglas; Dave Foley; Jeff Garlin; Gina Gershon; Bobcat Goldthwait; Ken Jeong; Denis Leary; Aubrey Plaza; Adam Scott; Eric Stoltz; Danny Trejo; and more. MARON returned for a 13-episode second season on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT on IFC. In the season opener, Marc goes on THE TALKING DEAD -- even though he hasn't watched THE WALKING DEAD since the pilot -- and must act professionally, even while seated between two people -- guests Chris Hardwick and Michael Ian Black -- who seem to hate him. In the rest of Season 2, things appear to be looking up for Marc, yet he continues to sabotage his professional, romantic and personal relationships. His dysfunctional family is taken to new highs when the entire clan is forced to co-exist in the same house for the first time in decades, and Marc's closest companionship ends when his beloved cat Boomer goes missing. Guest stars for Season 2 include: Bill Burr, Wyatt Cenac, David Cross, Joey 'Coco' Diaz, Paul Feig, Chris Hardwick, Rachael Harris, Michael Ian Black, Moshe Kasher, Tom Kenny, Johnny Knoxville, Dave Koechner, Tig Notaro, Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Pardo, Eddie Pepitone, Caroline Rhea, Andy Richter, Richard Riehle, Rob Riggle, Ray Romano, Sarah Silverman, Nora Zehetner, and many more. Plus, fellow podcaster Dave Anthony joins the cast in the new season, adding a fresh layer of complication to Marc's chaotic life. On Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT, IFC premiered the third season of MARON. This season, the stakes have never been higher for Marc as he attempts to keep it together while trying to launch a new talk show, help a friend father a child (while avoiding his own dad) and salvage the relationships he actually has left. Marc's future is uncertain as he tries to take his life to the next level while facing down old demons. Guest stars visiting Maron in and out of the garage this season include Steve Agee, Maria Bamford, Lisa Brenner, Bruce Bruce, Whitney Cummings, Lucy Davis, Andy Dick, Dr. Drew Pinsky, Cameron Esposito, Nelson Franklin, Adam Goldberg, Elliot Gould, Ken Marino, Patton Oswalt, Eddie Pepitone, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Alex Rocco, Andrea Rosen, Vik Sahay, Sam Seder, Rick Shapiro, Ryan Singer, Kurtwood Smith, Constance Zimmer and professional wrestlers Colt Cabana and CM Punk. Season 4 of MARON premiered on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 from 9-10pm ET/PT, as IFC debuted back-to-back new episodes. The fourth season picks up where the season three cliffhanger left off, with comedian and pioneer podcaster Marc Maron's fictional alter ego falling off the wagon and quickly descending the ladder of success. Having blown his sobriety, he has now lost it all: house, friends, career, even his cats are all gone. Drug-addled Marc is now squatting in a storage unit and trying to pull himself out of the "excrement bucket." Season 4 kicks off with Marc, jobless and friendless, hitting rock bottom and wondering what his questionable future holds. He goes to rehab where he is the only adult, crashes in a sexually awkward sober house, and hangs with his newly successful, but still disturbing friend Dave. The journey may be different this time around, but Marc is the same self-deprecating curmudgeon, and season four's rocky road to recovery leads him to bond with a wild cast of eccentric new characters. Guest stars for Season 4 include: Ron Perlman, Constance Zimmer, Amy Smart, Joey "Coco" Diaz, Don Stark, and Randy and Jason Sklar. Returning stars include Judd Hirsch as Marc's father; Sally Kellerman as his Pilates-loving mother; Andy Kindler as his reliable buddy and cat sitter; fellow comedian Whitney Cummings; and Dave Anthony as his competing fre-nemy.

On Wednesday, July 13, 2016 from 9-10pm ET/PT, IFC premiered the Season 4 finale of MARON, showing back-to-back new episodes. In the season ender, "The Bookstore; Bookend," Marc looks for work in the new town, and wants to be a good role model to his son.
