Plot Synopsis

MAKE OR BREAK: THE LINDA PERRY PROJECT is a one-hour reality series that follows Linda Perry, as she opens the doors to her Hollywood studio for the first time ever, works to re-launch her record label (Custard), and mentors a talented group of young artists -- one of whom she plans to sign to her label. The artists Linda has chosen are the result of an exhaustive nationwide search and they are some of the best unsigned artists in the country, covering almost every genre of music from Rock to Urban and everything in between. Over the course of three weeks, Linda transforms these amazing musicians with a variety of unique exercises. They perform in front of a live audience with little time to prepare, on the streets of Hollywood busking for spare change, and before some of the industries toughest celebrity critics. Once she feels that an artist doesn't have what it takes to be on her label, she'll cut them loose so she can focus her attention on the artists with more talent and potential. At the end of the day, Linda is looking for that one artist or band that will bring success to her label, and amazing music to the masses. As a songwriter and producer she has guided the careers of many of today's hottest artists -- including Christina Aguilera and Pink -- but Linda Perry got her start as the lead singer and songwriter of the '90s rock band 4 Non Blondes. The young artists include: Anjuli Stars, a solo artist from Miami, Florida, who, is classically trained from the Berklee College of Music and writes, raps, and sings her own compositions; Gabriel Mayers, a solo artist living in Brooklyn, who dropped out of high school to pursue a career in music and earns his living as a busker playing acoustic guitar for commuters in the subways of NYC; Hunter Valentine, a Canadian rock band currently living in Brooklyn, New York, comprised of two core members -- lead vocalist/guitarist Kiyomi McCloskey and drummer/vocalist Laura Petracca -- and a new member, Aimee Bessada (lead guitar/vocals), added just over a year ago; Mackenzie Johnson, a 20-year-old singer/songwriter from Newtown, PA, who taught herself guitar at the age of 15 and decided to skip college to focus on her music career; Noah Hunt, living in Los Angeles after being raised in Kennewick, WA, who has played at some of LA's hottest venues such as The Viper Room and The House Of Blues; Omar, a band comprised of guitarist Candice Martello and drummer Nick Fanelli, which has had success in the underground indie-rock movement in Philadelphia; and Vanjess, an R & B duo consisting of sisters, Ivana and Jessica Nwokike, who grew up in Nigeria, came to the United States with their family, and grew up singing in church -- before starting a YouTube channel of covers and originals. Plus, MAKE OR BREAK features two house managers: Laura Wilson, who has been involved with managing bands, working as a music stylist, and eventually worked for Pink as an assistant and tour manager; Steve Linsley, a member of the cult '80s music group The Jim Carroll Band, who has worked as an audio engineer for many artists including Nelson Gill, Bigelf, Boy Katindig, and Public Enemy.
