Plot Synopsis

Author and journalist Rageh Omaar documents the life of the prophet Muhammad, traveling to the place of Muhammad's birth and then retracing his footsteps -- from his humble beginnings in Mecca, his flight to Medina, the founding of the first Islamic constitution, and his subsequent military and political successes and failures. THE LIFE OF MUHAMMAD comprises three one-hour episodes: "The Seeker," which examines the world into which Muhammad was born, his marriage to his first wife, Khadijah, as well as his first revelations; "Holy Wars," the second episode, which focuses on key events in Muhammad's life, including the Night Journey to Jerusalem, his departure from Mecca and the eight-year war with the Meccan tribes; and "Holy Peace," which analyzes events during his later life, including the introduction of the moral code known as Shari'a and the concept of jihad. PBS aired the U.S. premiere of this series on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, showing all three episodes on the same night from 8-11pm ET/PT.
