Plot Synopsis

KINGDOM OF THE OCEANS documents marine wildlife in all aquatic environments, showing how these creatures have adapted to live in deep water, near volcanoes, in the sand, and many other natural extremes and common locations. This series was released after the documentary OCEANS had a successful run in theaters, and the directors, Jacques Cluzaud and Jacques Perrin, who were also behind the Oscar-nominated WINGED MIGRATION, expanded their footage from the documentary to four, one-hour episodes. With a $70-million budget for the project, the duo again developed and used new technology, which was specifically designed to capture never-before-seen footage of aquatic life. Their new technological innovations included: a torpedo camera that could be dragged underwater by a boat, traveling at speeds up to 20mph to keep up with any school of fish; a helicopter camera that can maintain the same speed as a pod of dolphins, while hovering only 20-100 yards above the surface; and many more inventions providing amazing footage. Nat Geo Wild aired the U.S. premiere of this series on Sunday, March 10, 2013, showing back-to-back episodes at 8pm ET, and presented the final two episodes of the series on the following Sunday.
