Plot Synopsis

This series features the stories of Katie Piper and other people living with disfigurements. Katie, an aspiring model, had her life changed when her ex-boyfriend paid another man to throw sulphuric acid in her face. After suffering facial burns, she has undergone numerous medical procedures to recover as much facial muscle function as possible and she also started The Katie Piper Foundation, which campaigns for people with burns and other disfiguring injuries. In this series her friends include: Adele, who has 46% burns on her arms and back; Amit, who has Neurofibromatosis Type 1; Andrew, who has Treacher-Collins Syndrome; Chantelle, who has a arteriovenous malformation on her nose; Emily, who has burns on 70% of her body; George, who has an inherited skin cancer; Kayleigh, who has Pfeiffer Syndrome; and Will, who has burns to 40% of his body. OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network aired the U.S. premiere of this series on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 10pm ET.
