Plot Synopsis

Each half-hour daily episode of Seasons 1-3 shows a session between psychotherapist Dr. Paul Weston and one of his patients, with the same patient returning for another session on the same weekday throughout the series. As Paul is drawn into the problems of his patients, he finds himself forced to evaluate his own crumbling personal life. In Season 2 Dr. Weston is divorced and practicing from the living room of his new home -- a brownstone in Brooklyn. Since he moved from Maryland, he has a new group of patients whom he counsels on Mondays through Thursdays, but now he must take the train to Maryland to continue his own Friday therapy sessions with Dr. Gina Toll. In Season 3, Weston adjusts to three new patients and a new therapist of his own while still struggling with the aftermath of his divorce and fears that his hand tremors might be the onset of Parkinson's Disease, which killed his father.

IN TREATMENT returned for its fourth season on Sunday, May 23, 2021 on HBO, focusing on the observant, empathetic Dr. Brooke Taylor. The new season is set in present-day Los Angeles and brings a diverse trio of patients in session with Brooke to help navigate a variety of modern concerns. Issues such as the global pandemic and recent major social and cultural shifts are a backdrop to the work Brooke will undertake -- all while she deals with complications in her own personal life. The fourth season also includes these characters: Eladio, who works as a home health aide for a wealthy family's adult son; Rita, Brooke's longtime confidant and friend who supports Brooke as she contends with her own demons after a life-altering loss; Colin, a charming millionaire beach bum turned white-collar criminal reckoning with all the ways his life has changed following his recent release from prison; Laila, Brooke's distrustful, teenage client, struggling to carve out her own identity separate from her family's overbearing expectations; and Adam, Brooke's long-time on-again, off-again boyfriend who has resurfaced to create further complexity for her. The 24-episode season will air on HBO with two back-to-back, half-hour episodes each Sunday and Monday night through June 28.
On Monday, June 28, 2021 from 9-10pm ET/PT, HBO premiered the Season 4 finale of IN TREATMENT, debuting back-to-back new episodes:

"Laila: Week 6" (9pm): When Rhonda arrives at Brooke's home distraught over her granddaughter's disappearance, Brooke seizes the opportunity to illuminate how Rhonda's unattainable expectations have marked Laila's entire life.

"Brooke: Week 6" (9:30pm): In the wake of her much-needed self-analysis, Brooke contemplates how startling revelations might impact her future with her son and inform her relationship with Adam.
