Plot Synopsis

I DIDN'T DO IT reveals cases of mistaken identity, misinterpreted evidence, forced confessions and legal technicalities that sent innocent people to jail, while the guilty roamed free. In addition to first-person interviews with the wrongly imprisoned, this series also features witnesses, detectives and prosecutors, who discuss the reasons they made these tragic mistakes, and how they've struggled to come to terms with what they've done. Each 60-minute episode chronicles one person's fight for freedom, proving their own innocence and bringing the real perpetrators to justice. Episodes include: "Shadow of Doubt," which discusses the case of Ronald Cotton, who spent more than a decade behind bars for a rape he didn't commit -- before he recognized a new inmate from the victim's original police sketch; "Twice Bitten," which documents the life of Ray Krone, dubbed "the snaggle tooth killer" by police, who spent 10 years in prison before a distant cousin who owned a dental software company showed how Ray's misaligned teeth were not the perfect match to bite marks on the victim; "Smoking Gun," which features Clarence Elkins, who went to jail because his six-year-old niece said an assailant "looked like my Uncle Clarence" -- but he caught his break in prison when a violent fellow prisoner who "looked like Clarence" left a cigarette butt in an ashtray; "Fight for Your Life," which highlights the case of Dewey Bozella, who spent 26 years in prison -- until the Innocence Project investigated Bozella's case and found fingerprints that linked his case to a similar crime committed after he was incarcerated; and many more cases. Investigation Discovery first aired this program as a one-hour special on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 10pm, almost 15 months before the official series premiere in November 2012.
