Plot Synopsis

As consultants at Galweather Stearn, Marty Kaan and his Pod travel the country to cultivate clients, convincing CEOs to sign their corporate souls to them in exchange for useless, indecipherable management directives that cost millions in billable hours. This series, based on the tell-all book "House Of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch And Then Tell You The Time," peels back the bull to reveal a world few know exists and fewer still have experienced -- the dirty, back-door wheeling and dealing at big firms like McKinsey, BCG, Deloitte & Touche and Bain. Marty is the big-money earner at Galweather Stearn, one of the nation's largest (fictional) management consulting firms, and he's the king of reading a room and stroking bosses and clients to get what he needs from them. Unlike other consultants, Marty has a personal life -- flawed as it may be after his marriage to business competitor Monica failed -- with his pre-teen son Roscoe lived with Jeremiah, Marty's live-in, retired psychotherapist father, but recently moves out to live with Monica. But home is never really a distraction for Marty since he's the ultimate power player, and he directs this ruthless, pull-no-punches team of big-balling power players known as The Pod, which includes: Jeannie van der Hooven, who aspires to be where Marty is and is eager to learn from the master while keeping him out of her pants -- and she was successful, despite their sexy cat-and-mouse chase, until a drunken night out with Marty in the Season 1 finale; Clyde Oberholt, a younger member of the team, who is a lackadaisical consultant and a voracious womanizer using every weapon in his arsenal to attract them -- his high profile job, his big salary, his charm, and his quick wit; and Doug Guggenheim, a Harvard-educated member, who is a quintessential math geek with mad analytical skills and a big ego surrounding them while being hopelessly inept in the dating department -- despite being sweet and romantic. When Season 2 opened on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT, Marty and the Pod had to adjust to a new version of Galweather Stearn in the aftermath of a sexual harassment scandal: they had a new boss, interim CEO Julianne Hofschraeger, and a new partner-level consultant, Tamara, who was a rival of Marty's from business school; one of their own was returning to work from a paid leave of absence; and they start by doing business in Vegas. HOUSE OF LIES returned for its third season on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT on Showtime. Season 3 started with the wreckage of Marty's decision to launch his own firm has spilling onto the Pod -- the almighty quartet is disbanded. But while Marty was preoccupied with hustling up new clients for his new Kaan & Associates Pod, his former mentee, Jeannie, was channeling her inner Kaan and making big moves at Galweather Stearn in his absence. In the Season 3 finale, Kaan & Associates was being rocked by a serious legal blow, while Jeannie tried to fix things. Showtime premiered the 12-episode fourth season of HOUSE OF LIES on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT. At the end of last season, a despondent Marty was alone in the desert after a cataclysmic double-cross by Jeannie and a visit by the Feds. This season, Marty's brief stint in white collar prison left Jeannie to pick up the pieces of the now tainted Kaan & Associates with Clyde and Doug. Client flight decimated the bottom line, but Marty is a singular focus: winning, at any and all cost. On Sunday, March 29, 2015 from 10-11pm ET/PT, Showtime premiered the Season 4 finale of HOUSE OF LIES, showing back-to-back new episodes. In the night's first new episode (10pm), "Everything's So F**king Obvious, I'm Starting to Wonder Why We're Even Having This Conversation," Marty looks to secure his place at Kaan & Associates, while Jeannie receives a proposition. Plus, Clyde reaches out to his father, and Roscoe is at the center of an ugly incident. Then in the season finale (10:30pm), "It's a Box Inside a Box Inside a Box, Dipsh*t (aka You're Safely Sucking at the Triple-Venti T*ts of the New Kaan & Associates)," Marty is on the verge of something big, if he can convince his employees to stay, and Jeannie gives birth. Meanwhile, Clyde, Doug and Kelsey wait for an offer, and Roscoe faces consequences. Earlier in the day (3-8pm), Showtime aired a ten-episode, catch-up marathon of HOUSE OF LIES, showing all previous episodes from the show's fourth season. Season 5 of HOUSE OF LIES premiered on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on Showtime. Marking the first time an American scripted series is shot in the country since the U.S. and Cuba restored diplomatic relations last summer, the cast and crew of HOUSE OF LIES were in Havana, Cuba, to shoot one episode of the new season. Marty is now a man with a singular focus ascending from millionaire mogul to global dominator. He's upping the stakes in a highly calculated winner-take-all power play with the Pod Jeannie, Clyde and Doug. Business is booming but, on the home front, he's juggling a new baby daughter, teenage son Roscoe and Jeremiah, who has a new girlfriend, Rita (guest star Wanda Sykes). Additional guest stars for the fifth season include Keegan-Michael Key, Ken Marino and Malcolm-Jamal Warner.
