Plot Synopsis

From director David Fincher, screenwriter Beau Willimon, and Eric Roth, HOUSE OF CARDS slithers beneath the curtain and through the back halls of greed, sex, love and corruption in modern Washington D.C. Netflix released all 13 episodes of Season 2 on Friday, February 14, 2014. In the second season, Francis and Claire Underwood continued their ruthless rise to power as threats mounted on all fronts. Zoe Barnes, an up-and-coming reporter and Francis's former paramour, inched closer to the truth about his crimes. President Walker's billionaire confidante Raymond Tusk demanded that Francis reciprocate political favors or face retribution. And Claire confronted the increasing glare of the spotlight as it ate away at her and Francis's once private existence. The Underwoods had to overcome these dangers -- past and present -- to avoid losing everything, regardless of collateral damage they left in their wake. Ten days before Netflix released the second season of HOUSE OF CARDS, the company announced it had picked up the series for Season 3. Season 3 of HOUSE OF CARDS debuted on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Netflix released all 13 episodes of the show's third season. The new season opens with a rocky start for the Underwood Presidency, as Frank wants to introduce an ambitious jobs program in an attempt to help secure his legacy. Meanwhile, Claire wants more than being a First Lady, and she has her sights set on the United Nations. The biggest threat they face is contending with each other. Netflix released all 13 episodes of the fourth season of HOUSE OF CARDS on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT. In the new season, Frank and Claire continue their pursuit for power, battling everyone in their way, including each other. New to the series are Neve Campbell playing a political consultant; Ellen Burstyn playing Claire's mother; and Cicely Tyson as a Texas Congressman. On Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Netflix released the 13-episode fifth season of HOUSE OF CARDS. With the stakes higher than ever, Frank and Claire work together to consolidate their power and win the White House by any means possible. Season 5 opens with Congress debating whether they'll investigate Frank; meanwhile, he and Claire attempt to stoke fear of terrorism. Tom Yates continues his stay in the White House. Then, Frank and his team work to leverage support in key states by any means necessary. Claire learns some upsetting news about one of Frank's friends. One week before the Season 4 debut, Netflix announced that senior writers Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese were promoted to showrunners for the show's fifth season.

The sixth and final season of HOUSE OF CARDS premiered on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Netflix released all eight episodes. In Season 6, Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear star as Annette Shepherd and Bill Shepherd, a sister and brother who inherited Shepherd Unlimited, a leading industrial conglomerate whose family foundations exert a powerful behind-the-scenes force in the American political landscape. The two share a vision for the future of America, as well as a complicated past with the Underwoods. Plus, Cody Fern stars as Duncan Shepherd, Annette's ambitious and devoted son, who represents the next generation of DC power players.

With Frank out of the picture, Claire Underwood steps fully into her own as the first woman president, but faces formidable threats to her legacy; meanwhile, sibling power couple Annette and Bill Shepherd attempt to influence policy. Claire clashes with the Shepherds and Mark Usher, who pressure her to sign the Future Act. Doug makes an unexpected move. The Shepherds push Claire on a Supreme Court nomination. Doug works to find a new path for himself. Claire consults with Jane on Syria.
