Plot Synopsis

Directed by Nanette Burstein, HILLARY is a four-part documentary series that provides unprecedented personal access to the former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. Featuring exclusive interviews with Clinton herself, her husband former President Bill Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, staff, friends and journalists, the series offers revealing moments from never-before-seen 2016 campaign footage alongside biographical chapters of Clinton's life and seeks to examine how she became at once one of the most admired and vilified women in the world.

"This was a fantastic opportunity," said Burstein. "Secretary Clinton gave me extraordinary access to her life story, which is utterly compelling. Beyond that, given the particulars of her narrative, we were able to highlight the history of the women's movement over the last fifty years, and especially what happens to women who aspire to take on roles traditionally inhabited by men."

On Friday, March 6, 2020 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Hulu released the entire four-episode docuseries:

"The Golden Girl": As Hillary Clinton launches her 2016 bid for the presidency, The Golden Girl tells the story of her first political transformation -- from a young suburban Republican to the iconoclastic First Lady of Arkansas.

"Becoming a Lady": Cast in the 2016 Democratic primary as a product of the establishment, this episode examines Hillary Clinton's debut on the national stage during the nineties -- and her provocative, transformative turn as First Lady of the United States.

"The Hardest Decision": After major setbacks in Washington, Hillary forges a new identity as a global feminist icon. But she also must grapple with the most painful moment in her marriage, which still looms large twenty years later in her campaign against Donald Trump.

"Be Our Champion, Go Away": After two terms as First Lady, Hillary steps out on her own as candidate for office. This installment follows the leaps forward and setbacks on her path from Senator to presidential nominee, and ultimately to the final days of the 2016 election.
