Plot Synopsis

HEROES OF COSPLAY is a reality series that follows some of the hottest cosplay stars, as they create extravagant costumes and make a splash at comic-book conventions around the country. These individuals race against the clock to transform themselves into amazing fictional characters that push the boundaries between fantasy and reality, all in hopes of impressing the convention judges to win a cash prize and the chance to become a cosplay legend. Each 60-minute episode features a single convention, including: Portland's first ever cosplay competition, Wizard World; a fan convention in Seattle; Megacon in Orlando, FL; Houston's Anime Matsuri; Planet Comicon in Kansas City; and many more contests, competitions, and conventions. Plus, HEROES OF COSPLAY highlights these nine people, who appear at various conventions: Yaya Han, an Atlanta resident, who is one of the acknowledged legends of cosplay and is often a judge at contests; Riki LeCotey, known as the internationally recognized cosplayer "Riddle," who moved from rural Canada to the United States to follow her passion for cosplay; Monika Lee, a student at the Georgia Institute of technology, who has been a cosplayer since the age of 13, competing in numerous craftsmanship contests; Victoria Schmidt, co-founder of the geek fashion and style blog settostunning.com, who has been a passionate fan of cosplay since high school; Chloe Dykstra, the host of the Just Cos show on YouTube's Nerdist channel, whose father is an F/X legend, having worked on the original Star Wars and Star Trek films; Jessica Merizan and Holly Conrad, who are co-founders of a costume fabrication shop, cosplay community, and new media entertainment company called Crabcat Industries; Becky Young, a trained actress, who has been creating costumes since attending her first San Diego Comic-Con in 2006; and Jesse Lagers, a software systems administrator from Portland, OR, who hopes that success in cosplay competitions will lead to his own business creating costumes and props.

On Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT, Syfy aired the Season 1 Summer premiere (aka Season 1.5), with five new cast members: Katie George, a BFA graduate from Auburn University in Costume and Makeup Design, whose interest in cosplay started in the sixth grade when she was searching the web for images of Sailor Moon; Miguel Guifarro (aka Miggy Jagger), an aggressive and extreme alpha personality, who still makes lots of friends because of his cool Mohawk and bad ass tattoos; Carl Martin, inspired by Blue Realm Studios and Volpin Props, who is completely self-taught and makes his own costumes including the creation of his own prosthetics and makeup work; Indra Rojas, a Venezuelan native living in Atlanta, who has been cosplaying since 2004 and started her own business commissioning costumes; and Meg Turney, a 26-year-old from Los Angeles, who crafts all of her own costumes from scratch, sewing and altering material in as little as four days.
