Plot Synopsis

A team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) travel to Arctic BioSystems, a high-tech research facility, to investigate a possible disease outbreak, only to find themselves racing against time to prevent mankind's total annihilation. The CDC team is led by Dr. Alan Farragut, the head of the Special Pathogens Branch, who shares a complicated past with his brother, Peter, and his ex-wife, Dr. Julia Walker. He's battled outbreaks and saved lives around the world, but none compares to what he finds at the Arctic Biosystems base, where Dr. Hiroshi Hatake is the charismatic leader. Hatake appears eager for the CDC to contain the situation within his base, but his true motivations are shrouded in mystery. The rest of the CDC responsse team includes: Alan's ex-wife, Dr. Julia Walker, who is a Senior Scientist at the CDC and is co-heading the team's mission to Arctic BioSystems; Dr. Sarah Jordan, who is highly intelligent and motivated to impress, but lacks experience; Dr. Doreen Boyle, a veterinary pathologist, who she specializes in the diagnosis of diseases through the examination of animal tissue and bodily fluids; and Major Sergio Balleseros, the Army liaison, who is part of the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases and a systems engineer. Arctic BioSystems also employs these people: Alan's brother, Dr. Peter Farragut, who is a Research Scientist working with mutagens and has a complicated relationship with his brother and his brother's ex-wife; and Daniel Aerov, the head of security, who is fiercely loyal and dedicated to helping Hatake achieve his goals...whatever they may be. HELIX returned for its 13-episode second season on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT. The season opener, "San Jose," picks up 15 months after the events at Arctic Biosystems, and a new CDC team -- with the addition of biotoxicologist Kyle Sommer, a world-class toxicologist and son of a Texas preacher -- responds to a potential outbreak on a Windjammer in the Northern Pacific. Their search leads them to an island occupied by a mysterious cult led by the charismatic Michael. Meanwhile, 40 years in the future, Walker arrives at the same island searching for Alan Farragut. Recurring guest star Steven Weber joins the cast in Season 2 as Brother Michael, the charismatic leader of the cult. Magnetic and charming, he is brilliant speaker and sermonizer, but also a first-class geneticist.

On Friday, April 10, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT, Syfy premiered the Season 2 finale of HELIX. In the season ender, "O Brave New World," Walker and Alan's relationship comes to a bloody climax while Peter and Alan's sibling feud erupts in flames. Meanwhile, Kyle does his best to protect a possible cure for the mycosis.
