Plot Synopsis

Host Amy Thielen, a James Beard Award-winning food writer, shares recipes for lake-cabin food, as she cooks in her cabin kitchen and introduces viewers to Minnesota's and Wisconsin's locals at their rural homes or restaurants, lakeside kitchens and working farms. Each 30-minute episode of this series has its own theme, including: "Butter," as Amy visits Nordin Creamery in Westby, WI, and returns home to prepare blueberry lemon pie, new potatoes with grilled onion butter, and greens with spiced butter and fresh ricotta; "Bologna Days," with Amy taking a trip to Thielen Meats, her cousin's business, and then making Midwestern fried bologna, fried onion dip, and peppered pork loin and parmesan sandwiches on grilled flatbread; "Granny Style Chicken," as Amy roasts a local chicken granny style together with a plain, natural gravy and bread stuffing which is prepared with a medley of Swiss chard, caramelized onions, some mashed giblets cooked with sherry and lots of parsley and chives; and many more Midwestern motifs. Ten days after HEARTLAND TABLE premiered on Food Network, Amy's book, "The New Midwestern Table," was released in stores.
