Plot Synopsis

Created, executive produced, and showrun by Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsk, HACKS is a half-hour comedy series that explores a dark mentorship that forms between Deborah Vance, a legendary Las Vegas comedian, and Ava, an entitled, outcast 25-year-old writer, who Deborah is forced to hire. Recurring guest stars include Kaitlin Olson, Christopher McDonald, Paul W. Downs, Mark Indelicato, Poppy Liu, Johnny Sibilly, Meg Stalter and Rose Abdoo. The first two episodes of HACKS dropped on Thursday, May 13, 2021 on HBO Max, with two new episodes debuting weekly on Thursdays through June 10.

HACKS returned for its second season on Thursday, May 12, 2022, as HBO Max released the first two episodes. Two new episodes drop each Thursday through June 2. The dark mentorship between legendary Las Vegas comedian Deborah Vance and her young, entitled writer Ava continues to evolve as the two travel across the country workshopping Deborah's new stand-up act. New recurring guest stars Laurie Metcalf, Martha Kelly, Ming-Na Wen and Susie Essman, and guest stars Margaret Cho and Devon Sawa join in Season 2.

In Season 3 of HACKS, a year after parting, Deborah Vance is riding high off the success of her standup special while Ava pursues new opportunities back in Los Angeles. In addition to Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, Paul W. Downs, Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Kaitlin Olson, Christopher McDonald, Mark Indelicato, Rose Abdoo, and Lorenza Izzo all return. New cast members include: Helen Hunt, Christina Hendricks, Christopher Lloyd, Dan Bucatinsky, George Wallace, and Tony Goldwyn.
