Plot Synopsis

GROWING UP HIP HOP is a one-hour reality series that follows a group of twentysomethings who are the next generation of hip hop royalty, attempting to step outside the shadow of their famous families. Raised by hip hop legends, each member of this tight-knit group is working hard to gain independence, while facing a surprising challenge that will test their loyalties within the group and even relationships with their own mothers and fathers. The group includes: Angela Simmons, daughter of rap pioneer Rev. Run of Run-D.M.C, who is a hip hop socialite, model and fashion designer of her own line, Foofi, and who has had a long-standing friendship with Romeo Miller that could turn into something more; Romeo Miller, a child star formerly known as Lil' Romeo, whose father, hip-hop artist and entrepreneur Master P, has been grooming him to take over the No Limit Empire; Damon "Boogie" Dash -- the namesake of his father, former Roc-A-Fella Records music and media mogul, Damon Dash -- who founded Chipz Cookies with his high school pal; Kristinia DeBarge, the daughter of James DeBarge, who began singing when she was 3-years old and at 12-years old recorded the duet "How I Feel Inside" with her father; TJ Mizell -- the son of Jam Master Jay, one-third of the famous rap group Run-D.M.C -- who spins at the hottest events and venues around the world and best known as A$AP Ferg's DJ; and Egypt Criss, the daughter of Sandra "Pepa" Denton from Salt-N-Pepa and rap icon Treach from Naughty By Nature, who is actively pursuing a solo music career with the help of her momager.

Angela Simmons, Romeo Miller, Damon 'Boogie' Dash, Kristinia DeBarge, TJ Mizell and Egypt Criss all returned for Season 2, which premiered Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on WEtv. The new season also welcomes two newcomers: Andre King, brother of Swizz Beatz and friend of Angela Simmons; and Briana Latrise, the troubled daughter of Mary J. Blige's now ex-husbandger, Kendu Issacs. The premiere episode opens as the group prepares to come together at the event of the year: Andre's birthday party! Romeo returns from filming overseas to the shocking news of Angela's engagement, creating a lot of chatter and a laundry list of unanswered questions. Kristinia hears the news and becomes nervous that rumors from last season may be haunting her and makes it her mission to clear the air with Angela. Meanwhile, Egypt is hard at work in the studio, on her own, for the first time; however, when mom pops in to check up on her, its clear Pepa is still struggling with letting go. This season, the title of the show has never rung more true, as unforeseen circumstances propel this new generation into adulthood. As the crew continues to try to hustle and pave their own way, friendships, iconic families, loyalties, and the world of hip hop will may never be the same.
