Plot Synopsis

GREAT LAKE WARRIORS follows five tugboat crews on the Great Lakes, as they battle the deadly storms and hazards of the approaching Winter -- turbulent waters, winds more than 70 miles an hour, and waves over 30 feet high. These five vessels are featured: The John M. Selvick, part of Calumet River Fleeting in Chicago, run by captain John Selvick, who first started driving tugs when he was 14 years old as the son of another legendary Great Lakes captain; The Kimberly Selvick, another boat from Chicago's Calumet River Fleeting, captained by Ted Long (aka Captain Nice), who started working on boats when he was 14 and is known for his no-nonsense demeanor and penchant for shouting commands, corrections and criticisms; The Mary E. Hannah, helmed by first-timer Nathan Schley, who grew up in stepdad John Selvick's pilothouse and learned to drive boats at an early age; The Point Valour & Miseford, part of the family-run Thunder Bay Tugs in Thunder Bay, Ontario, which is captained by Gerry Dawson, the company owner, who has been on the lakes since he was a teenager, working for his father, and has seen it all; and The Nels J. & The Helen, captained by Mike Ojard, who has his money on the line to start a tug company on Lake Superior by enlisting a corps of volunteers from his circle of family and friends to carve out a piece of the tug trade on the deadliest and wildest of all five Great Lakes.
