Plot Synopsis

Based on the bestselling novels by Cecily von Ziegesar and the original series that ran from 2007-2012 on The CW, GOSSIP GIRL finds a new generation of New York private school teens being introduced to social surveillance nine years after the original blogger's website went dark. The teens include:

Julien: J has sat on the highest steps of The Met for a long time now. But you know what they say happens when you fly too close to the sun.

Zoya: Z is a little lamb led into the world of the elite by a powerful ally. But this sheep is keen to create her own herd.

Obie: O has got the world in his hands, and no one to share it with.

Monet: Her instagram feed is a work of art. Monet herself? A piece of work.

Aki: Don't be fooled by his clear, unemotional demeanor. Ever heard of the calm before the storm?

Audrey: The school's resident perfectionist. Too bad there's no such thing as perfect.

Luna: Quietly judging everything, including you right now.

Max: But you can call him "Max," which is also how far he's known for pushing the envelope.

Kate: Don't let her angelic features fool you, K is no one to play with.

The series opener, "Just Another Girl on the MTA," dropped on Thursday, July 8, 2021 on HBO Max and had its linear TV debut one day later (Friday, July 9) at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. The series begins with the start of a new school year at the Upper East Side's elite Constance St. Jude's ushers in the arrival of a newcomer, who soon finds herself thrust into a blinding spotlight. While other students cling to their comfortable, glamorous lives, a mysterious presence threatens to upend the status quo. After a 3.5-month break, GOSSIP GIRL returned with new episodes on Thursday, November 25, 2021, as HBO Max released three new episodes. The second half of Season 1 continues to explore just how much social media -- and the landscape of New York itself -- has changed in the intervening years. The remaining three episodes debuted one week later on Thursday, December 2.

The sophomore season of GOSSIP GIRL premiered on Thursday, December 1, 2022 on HBO Max, as the streaming service released the first two episodes of the new season. It's the second semester of Junior year, and Gossip Girl is leaving no stone unturned in her effort to control the scandalous lives/spin the scandalous lies of Manhattan's elite. She's learned a thing or two from her first go-round -- namely what her audience wants, they shall get. It's time for her to turn the heat up on what's been simmering (Julien, have you met Monet?) as well as look at her own impact, and how she can make it more catastrophic than it was before. Even if that means lying to do it. Old enemies, new allies, constantly shifting sands -- this semester, there can only be one queen, and by the end of the school year, everyone will know where the bodies are buried, and just who was holding the shovel. In the season opener, "Deb Brawl in a Blue Dress," the crew looks forward to a fresh start in the new year, but a debutante ball threatens already fragile bonds.
