Plot Synopsis

GLEE is a one-hour musical comedy that follows Will Schuester as he tries to transform McKinley High School's Glee Club from a ragtag group of performers into a pitch-perfect club, giving them the chance to finally reclaim their National title after years of futility. Will needs all the support he can get, and fellow teacher Emma Pillsbury helps him try to restore the Glee Club's glory despite the fact that Will's wife, the cheerleading coach, and pretty much everybody else think they're crazy for even trying. Over the years the club has become a haven for misfits and social outcasts -- a nerdy soprano, a geeky guitarist and a diva-in-training -- but there were two glimmers of hope in the beginning. Rachel saw the Glee Club as a stepping stone to stardom while football player Finn tried to protect his macho image while the club features his Motown voice. In Season 4, the members of New Directions compete amongst themselves to be the "new Rachel" and hold open auditions to find a fresh crop of students. Meanwhile, the graduating class leaves the comforts of McKinley for the real world, where Rachel struggles to please her demanding NYADA teacher and Kurt second-guesses his decision to stay in Lima. FOX aired the Season 5 premiere of GLEE on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT, featuring the music of the Beatles in the season's first two episodes, followed by a tribute to Cory Monteith's Finn. The new season continued to follow the journey of the NYADA students and the kids of New Directions. Meanwhile, the school year continued at McKinley High, where the glee club's win at Regionals put them on the path to possible back-to-back wins at Nationals. In New York, Rachel found out if she landed the lead role in her first Broadway production and Blaine planned his proposal to Kurt. GLEE opened its sixth and final 13-episode season starting with a special two-hour premiere event on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 8-10pm ET/PT on FOX. New Directions' original star, Rachel Berry, comes home to Lima after her humiliating failure as a TV actress, and discovers that Sue Sylvester has banished the arts at McKinley and Mr. Schuester is coaching rival Vocal Adrenaline. Throughout its closing season, McKinley alumnae will return to say good-bye.

FOX premiered GLEE's two-hour series finale on Friday, March 20, 2015 from 8-10pm ET/PT. In the first hour, "2009," GLEE goes back in time to find out why the original members of New Directions initially signed up for glee club. Then, in the finale, "Dreams Come True," GLEE flashes forward to see how the character's lives have progressed five years down the road. Geraldo Rivera and Andrew Rannells guest star.
