Plot Synopsis

GARFUNKEL AND OATES is a half-hour comedy series that centers on the misadventures of the female comedy-folk duo Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci, as these comedy underdogs sing about the unspoken truths of pregnant women, the boundaries of social media, the difference between being 29 and 31, and the joys of same-sex puppet unions. Awkward, flawed, and not above a dirty joke, this ukulele and guitar-wielding twosome struggles to make their mark in the comedy world, while trying to reconcile Riki's razor-sharp realism and Kate's childlike wonder. In the premiere episode, "The Fadeaway," Riki discovers the consequences of making her boyfriend's privates public. Meanwhile, Kate struggles to look the part for her audition as the hot slut against Sir Ben Kingsley. In the second episode, Riki and Kate are confronted with the reality of Rule 34 -- that everything has a porn counterpart -- when they come face-to-face with their sex video doppelgangers, Garfinger and Butts. Joining Riki and Kate in the first two episodes are guest stars Steve Agee, Abby Elliott, Chris Hardwick, Anthony Jeselnik, Natasha Leggero, Tig Notaro, and Chris Parnell, as well as special guests Sir Ben Kingsley and half the inspiration for the singing pair, John Oates, from the duo Daryl Hall & John Oates. IFC aired a "First Look" of GARFUNKEL AND OATES on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 10:30pm ET/PT.

Immediately following a marathon (6:30-10pm ET/PT) of encore presentations of the first seven episodes of Season 1, IFC aired the first season finale at 10pm ET/PT. In the season ender, "Maturity," Riki seeks out her ex-boyfriend when her libido increases.
