Plot Synopsis

Narrated by Jurnee Smollett, THE FUTURE OF... is a 12-episode documentary series that looks into the future to see how every aspect of our daily lives -- from raising pets and house plants to what we eat and how we date -- will be impacted by technology. This series reveals surprising and personal predictions about the rest of our lives -- and the lives of generations to come. The first six episodes of THE FUTURE OF... dropped on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 on Netflix, with the final six episodes debuting one week later on Tuesday, June 28. The first six 20-minute episodes include:

"Dogs": Imagine a future where AI fully translates animal language and behavior for pet lovers -- and picture how it will transform life with our fur babies.

"Dating": Swipe left, right -- or forward? In the future, finding the perfect match could rely on AI, biometric data and wearables that gauge compatibility.

"Houseplants": From pollution monitoring to data storage -- biologists and botanists explore the potential of plant modification and its effect on our everyday lives.

"Gaming": Specialists discuss the next level of augmented reality, its potential to transform mundane places and the downsides of immersive experiences.

"Space Vacations": Business leaders and astronauts delve into the practical challenges of making space travel less time-consuming and more accessible

"Cheeseburgers": Driven by ethical and environmental concerns, food tech startups are using smart engineering to reimagine a comfort food classic: the cheeseburger.

The final six episodes include:

"Sports": Athletes and engineers examine new developments in artificial intelligence and robotics that can make career-ending injuries a thing of the past.

"Fashion": Disposable fashion comes into focus for designers and researchers, who also delve into compostable garb merging personalization with sustainability

"Skyscrapers": From vertical cities to sustainable skyscrapers -- inventors and designers envision a future of ambitious architecture that could reimagine our cities.
