Plot Synopsis

FORWARD: THE FUTURE OF BLACK MUSIC is a four-episode, short-form series that follows artists into their most sacred spaces to have unfiltered conversations between an icon and an emerging artist that revolves around their influences and visions for the future. Each episode focuses on a different duo, culminating with a musical performance by the artist on the rise, further proving why they are the future. Episodes include:

Yara Shahidi ft. Neelam (Feb. 16): To celebrate the #FutureOfBlackMusic, Yara Shahidi shares why rapper Neelam's music inspires her, leading the women to discuss everything from Black feminism to the importance of lyrics and how they impact the culture.

John Legend ft. D Smoke (Feb. 19): To celebrate the #FutureOfBlackMusic, John Legend shines a light on artist D Smoke, a leader in his community who is shaping the sound of Black music.

Erykah Badu ft. Tobe Nwigwe (Feb. 23): The celebration of the #FutureofBlackMusic continues with Erykah Badu as she shares the stage with viral visionary Tobe Nwigwe in a powerful exchange on creativity, family, and Black identity. Together, they perform a powerful unreleased song.

Chance the Rapper ft. his brother Taylor Bennett (Feb. 26): In the final episode, Chance the Rapper shifts the focus to his brother, artist and entrepreneur Taylor Bennett, as they revel in the rich history of music in the Midwest and the importance of ownership among Black artists.
