Plot Synopsis

FORTITUDE is a one-hour drama series that tells the story of the idyllic Arctic town of Fortitude, whose peaceful existence is shattered after a brutal and shocking murder. Surrounded by the savage beauty of the polar landscape, Fortitude is a close-knit community whose future sparkles with the promise of Arctic opportunity, development, wealth, and discovery, but above-average temperatures lead to a record ice melt revealing secrets long since hidden beneath the frozen landscape. Sheriff Dan Anderssen leads the investigation and is forced to work alongside DCI Morton, a detective who has flown into town from the mainland to contribute his forensic expertise. The murder is a catastrophe for Hildur Odegard, the town's Governor. It threatens her ambitious plans to transform Fortitude from a mining town into a site for high-end tourism. And for Henry Tyson, a wildlife photographer who only has weeks left to live, the murder is the catalyst to unearthing Fortitude's darkest secret. Also key to the story are Charlie Stoddart, an English scientist who heads up the Arctic Biology department at the Fortitude Arctic Research Centre; talented young scientist Vincent Rattrey, the newest member of Stoddart's team; and Jules Sutter, who is married to Frank Sutter, Fortitude's chief search and rescue pilot. As the search for the killer progresses, their list of suspects -- and suspicions of each other -- grows, and the community struggles to make sense of the terror that has been unleashed among its residents. FORTITUDE premiered in the UK on Sky Atlantic (9pm) and in the United States on Pivot (10pm ET/PT) on the same day -- Thursday, January 29, 2015 -- with a two-hour series opener.

Season 2 of FORTITUDE had its U.S. premiere on Friday, April 14, 2017 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Amazon Prime released the entire 10-episode second season. The new season opens with the remote arctic town struggling with government cuts, a missing sheriff, and a strange new figure; meanwhile, a chilling discovery proves that the horror isn't over for our locals; there is a demon amongst the herd. The police continue their gruesome investigation and make several discoveries with worrying implications. Meanwhile Governor Odegard is presented with devastating news as Sheriff Dan struggles for his life, and a new threat makes its presence known.
