Plot Synopsis

Five fictional short films explore the impact of breast cancer on people's lives, using Pearl as the character to tie the interconnected story arcs together. Pearl begins as a confused child bravely facing the loss of her mother to breast cancer to her adult life as a mother and oncologist treating other patients before she herself is diagnosed with, and ultimately beats, the same disease that took her mother. The five stories are: CHARLOTTE (directed by Demi Moore), which tells the story of Pearl's mother, Charlotte, who is in her bedroom dying from breast cancer on the night man first walks on the moon in July 1969 and when Pearl first develops her lifelong passion to help others afflicted with the disease; MIA (directed by Jennifer Aniston), which uses flashbacks to highlight the highs and lows of Mia's two-year journey after being Pearl diagnoses her with breast cancer, including a hilarious mock funeral while still she was still alive; LILI (directed by Alicia Keys), a fiercely independent career-minded woman who recruits her sister to tell their mother about her breast cancer, only to find that her sister and mother are her strongest allies; CHEYANNE (directed by Penelope Spheeris, who directed and wrote THE DECLINE OF THE WESTERN CIVILIZATION), which highlights the life of Cheyanna, a sexy young stripper who requires aggressive treatment, losing both breasts, which have defined her life physically, financially and emotionally; and PEARL (directed by MONSTER writer/director Patty Jenkins), the tale of the main character and successful oncologist who suddenly finds herself in the patient's seat when she is diagnosed with breast cancer but finds the strength to tell her young daughter that everything is going to be OK -- something she never heard as a child.
