Plot Synopsis

The five-episode first season of FC BARCELONA: A NEW ERA follows FC Barcelona during its 2021-22 season. After a lifetime of wearing the Barca colors, Leo Messi is not on the team anymore. This change results in the dismissal of Ronald Koeman. Problems are increasing, such as Ansu Fati is injured again and Aguero needs to retire. Considering this, Xavi Hernandez is chosen to become the coach and straighten out a project that has been going through an institutional and sport crisis in the past years, including eliminations in the Champions League, constant coach changes, and the president's resignation. Xavi finds a team with low spirits, plummeting on the leaderboard and unfamiliar with his idea of football. But with patience and hard work, the results start improving, and their style returns. Additionally, Dani Alves comes back home, and the young homegrown Gavi secures his place on the senior team. All five episodes of FC BARCELONA: A NEW ERA's first season dropped on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 on Prime Video.

On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, Prime Video released the entire four-episode second season of FC BARCELONA: A NEW ERA. Season 2 chronicles the rebuilding process that Xavi started last year and has culminated in this season's victory. Moreover, thanks to the new world-class signings, the emerging young stars and the definitive adaptation of the rest of the squad, this team is once again a winning team and the fans have regained their lost enthusiasm. The team begins the 2022-23 season with big expectations. With the arrival of new signings like Lewandowski and the renewal of young promises like Gavi, the team can aim for any goal. However, the first setbacks are suffered in the European competition and LaLiga. After having lost a Champions League game and El Clasico in LaLiga, the team is going through its darkest hour. Decisive action is required to steer clear of another tragic season. With unconditional support from the fans and new tactical changes, the team faces a key challenge: winning the Spanish Super Cup. The team starts the year on a winning streak that cements the team's leading position at the top of LaLiga. But just as things seem to be at their best, the Negreira case emerges, accusing the club of making payments to referees in previous seasons. The coach and the president attempt to shield the players from the ensuing media frenzy. Now, more than ever, the team must stand united. Several legendary players from the old guard, including Busquets and Jordi Alba, announce their retirement. On the horizon looms the most pivotal game of the season: El Clasico at the Camp Nou. Winning this match could seal the LaLiga title for Barca, sending them back to the top after years of crises. Glory is just one step away.
