Plot Synopsis

Executive produced by Alex Gibney and inspired by Jeff Sharlet's 2008 book "The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power," THE FAMILY is a five-part docuseries that centers on an enigmatic conservative Christian group known as the Family, officially The Fellowship Foundation, which wields enormous influence in Washington, D.C., as it pursues its global ambitions. This series, which weaves together real video and photos with dramatic re-enactments, opens with journalist Jeff Sharlet detailing his days living at Ivanwald, a men's residence in Virginia, where he discovers the Family's allegiance to Jesus -- and to power. Supporters and skeptics discuss C Street -- a secrecy-shrouded residence for Washington politicians -- and its sway in high-profile sex scandals. On Friday, August 9, 2019 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Netflix released all five episodes of THE FAMILY.
