Plot Synopsis

Following his fall from grace in London and a stint in rehab, eccentric Sherlock Holmes escapes to Manhattan where his wealthy father forces him to live with his worst nightmare -- a sober companion, Dr. Watson. A successful surgeon until she lost a patient and her license three years ago, Watson views her current job as another opportunity to help people, as well as paying a penance. However, the restless Sherlock is nothing like her previous clients. He informs her that none of her expertise as an addiction specialist applies to him and he's devised his own post-rehab regimen -- resuming his work as a police consultant in New York City. Watson has no choice but to accompany her irascible new charge on his jobs. But Sherlock finds her medical background helpful, and Watson realizes she has a knack for playing investigator. Sherlock's police contact, Capt. Gregson, knows from previous experience working with Scotland Yard that Sherlock is brilliant at closing cases, and welcomes him as part of the team. The team also includes Detective Marcus Bell, a top-notch investigator with sharp intuition and formidable interrogation skills, who is initially skeptical of Holmes and his unorthodox methods but recognizes Sherlock as an asset in their investigations. With the mischievous Sherlock Holmes now running free in New York solving crimes, it's simple deduction that he's going to need someone to keep him grounded, and it's elementary that it's a job for Watson. But will she be able to help him overcome the revelation that Irene Adler, his long lost love, was really Moriarty?

ELEMENTARY returned for its second season on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS, with an episode filmed in London, England. In the season opener, Holmes and Watson traveled to London to help track down an old mentor and investigate an unsolved mystery. Meanwhile, Mycroft Holmes, Sherlock's estranged brother, reunited with Sherlock, revealing some secrets of his own.

Season 3 premiered on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS with the "Enough Nemesis To Go Around" episode. In the season opener, Holmes returns to New York with a new apprentice, Kitty Winter, and a renewed interest in working with the NYPD after being fired by London's MI6. However, Captain Gregson won't let him resume consulting for the department without permission from his former partner, Watson, the NYPD's new go-to private investigator. Season 3 guest stars include Gina Gershon, Sonya Walger, Zak Orth, Phil Simms, and many more.

ELEMENTARY returned for its fourth season on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS. In Season 4, John Noble will star as Sherlock Holmes' wealthy, estranged father when he joins the cast of ELEMENTARY as a series regular. The character has been referenced in past seasons as being instrumental in Sherlock's first stint in rehab three years ago and in pairing his son with Joan Watson, his former sober companion, now his current investigative partner and friend. In the Season 4 premiere, "The Past Is Parent," Holmes' father, Morland, arrives in New York to fix his estranged son's legal difficulties by any means necessary when Holmes faces criminal charges in the aftermath of his recent violent behavior and relapse. Also, with Holmes and Watson's consultancy with the NYPD in jeopardy, Holmes concentrates on the case of a missing wife believed to have been killed by her husband to try and get back in the department's good graces.

Season 5 of ELEMENTARY premiered on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS, as Nelsan Ellis joins the cast as Shinwell Johnson, a character from the 1924 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story, "The Illustrious Client." In the season opener, "Folie a Deux," when a serial bomber becomes active again after being dormant for six years, Watson seeks help from Shinwell Johnson, a former patient whose life she saved when she was a surgeon. Also, Holmes senses Watson is unhappy and questions whether she is still fulfilled by her detective career.

The sixth season of ELEMENTARY premiered on Monday, April 30, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS, as Desmond Harrington joins the cast as Michael, Sherlock's new friend who credits Holmes for his sobriety. In the season opener, "An Infinite Capacity for Taking Pains," Holmes confronts a medical diagnosis that threatens both his career and sobriety, and he meets Michael, a man who credits Sherlock for helping him conquer his own addiction. Also, Holmes and Watson are hired by a reformed party girl heiress to find her missing partner in a years-old sex tape that has just leaked online.

ELEMENTARY began its farewell season on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS. In Season 7, Holmes and Watson's new careers as consultants for Scotland Yard are disrupted by news that a member of their inner circle has been gravely wounded in the United States. As Holmes' stateside legal trouble -- the result of a confession to a murder he didn't commit -- threatens to keep them from returning to New York, their greatest foe to date, tech billionaire Odin Reichenbach (James Frain), waits on the horizon to test their limits. In the season opener, "The Further Adventures," Holmes and Watson's new careers as consultants for Scotland Yard in London take them inside the tabloid journalism industry when a popular model is the victim of an acid attack. Also, as Watson grows increasingly homesick for New York, Captain Gregson is wracked with guilt over his unresolved rift with his former consultants. Ophelia Lovibond returns as Kitty Winter, Sherlock's former protege. Additional guest stars include: Tamsin Greig (DCI Athelney Jones), Ravi Kapoor (Dr. Garret Halsey), Saffron Burrows (Ruby Carville), and Maritz Veer (Lola Quinn).
