Plot Synopsis

Two men -- one who is military-trained and the other who is a naturalist -- are dropped into the planet's most unforgiving terrain with minimal gear and supplies to demonstrate how they would endure the elements. They agree that you need to find shelter, water, food and help, but they don't see eye-to-eye on much else. Their differing philosphies often come into play and they must find a way to work together and survive. Find out how each stays alive by using what they can find in their surroundings as well as ordinary objects they have with them. How will they use a plastic tarp, two knives and a mylar blanket to survive the Winter on a deserted island off the coast of Nova Scotia? Or a 35mm camera, condoms and a pack of cigarettes in the Laos jungle? Cody Lundin, appearing in Seasons 1-4 of DUAL SURVIVAL, is a professional survival instructor and has been going barefoot for more than two decades, part of his indigenous survival strategy, as he honed his skills living in the deserts and mountains with little modern tools, equipment or assistance. For the first two seasons, Lundin survived with Dave Canterbury, who joined the U.S. Army at age 17, eventually becoming a Special Reaction Team instructor and sniper. After leaving the Army, Canterbury put his background, skills and training to work for the next phase of his career -- learning and now teaching wilderness survival at his Pathfinder Training School in Southeast Ohio. When Season 3 returned on New Year's Day 2013, Canterbury was replaced by Joseph Teti, a combat-tested special operations veteran and graduate of more than 30 formal schools related to special operations. Teti's training in the art of staying alive has helped him survive countless classified missions in Afghanistan and Iraq. Lundin and Teti returned for a new season of DUAL SURVIVAL when Discovery aired the Season 4 premiere of the series on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT, but Matt Graham replaced Lundin partway through the season. In the fourth season opener, Joe and Cody escape the crocodile-filled waters of a mangrove swamp in Sri Lanka, only to find themselves in a leech-infested jungle where distressed elephants interrupt their journey back. DUAL SURVIVAL returned for its fifth season on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on Discovery. Season 5 features Joe Teti and Matt Graham -- survival experts with drastically different backgrounds -- once again joining forces to survive in some of the world's toughest environments. In the season opener, "Into the Canyons," Joe and Matt face down the high desert canyons of Matt's home of 20 years: southern Utah. Without knives or any modern supplies, they attempt to survive and seek rescue in this harsh terrain that's more favorable to rattlesnakes and mountain lions. Later in the season Matt and Joe show what it takes to survive in environments that range from a deserted island in the Caribbean to the swamps of Georgia, and in Central America, among other destinations. Season 6 of DUAL SURVIVAL premiered on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on Discovery, immediately following a brand-new one-hour special (8pm), "The Beginning," and an all-day marathon (9am-8pm) of encore episodes. In the sixth season, new co-hosts Grady Powell and Bill McConnell are dropped into survival situations that anyone, anywhere in the world, could one day encounter. These experts exhibit how the right skills, knowledge and mental attitude can keep people alive under even the most extreme circumstances. Each episode takes place in a different remote wilderness location, where Grady and Bill must put aside their philosophical differences and work together to secure the four key elements of wilderness survival: water, food, fire and shelter. Grady is a former U.S. Army Green Beret with a "no quit" mindset, who passed selection at only 21 years old, and is among some of the youngest soldiers to have made it into the elite brotherhood of Special Forces Operators. A small arms, mobility and survival expert, Grady has run protection for high-level U.S. dignitaries overseas and currently teaches tactical skills to law enforcement and civilians. Meanwhile, his new partner Bill McConnell, a primitive wilderness survivalist, takes a much different approach. Bill considers himself to be on a lifelong journey to connect with nature and often 'talks' to plants and animals in the wild. He is continually seeking out both indigenous and ancient skills, including fire making, tool & weapons manufacturing, and hunting. On Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT, Discovery premiered the seventh season of DUAL SURVIVAL. Returning to the series from last season is former U.S. Army Green Beret Weapons Sergeant Grady Powell, who tends to adopt a strong-willed and impetuous approach in order to overcome any obstacle. Grady is joined this season by new partner Josh James, an experienced outdoorsman from New Zealand's South Island. Josh earned his moniker "The Kiwi Bushman" through decades of working as a professional trapper, hunter and whitewater rafting guide in some of the most unspoiled wilderness environments on the planet. Josh and Grady must draw on their unique skills and experiences to battle with some of the toughest wilderness environments on the planet, where everything that can go wrong does, and opposing mindsets present frequent - and often amusing - conflicts. Each honing his distinct survival skills, the pair devises extraordinary tools and strategies to demonstrate how to make it out alive. Grady will then be joined by Air Force veteran Bo McGlone for a two-episode special -- the first time in DUAL SURVIVAL history that two different branches of the military join forces. A former special operations combat airman, Bo comes from a long line of military men. After his discharge from the Air Force, Bo served as a military intelligence security contractor in Iraq, Afghanistan and Africa in some of the harshest possible conditions. In the frigid snow-capped peaks of Wyoming and in the sweltering slopes of Colombia, Army and Air Force must set aside generational differences and entrenched military rivalries in order to tackle some of the toughest terrains imaginable.

On Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT, Discovery premiered the season finale of DUAL SURVIVAL. In the season ender, "Attack of the Elephants," stranded and lost in the drought-ravaged Okavango Delta in Botswana, EJ and Jeff must face down aggressive bull elephants and territorial three-thousand pound hippopotamuses in their quest for survival and a way back to civilization.
