Plot Synopsis

DOOMSDAY PREPPERS explores the lives of otherwise ordinary Americans who are preparing for the end of the world as we know it, revealing their unique beliefs, motivations, and strategies. Plus, an expert assesses their plans and strategies, estimating their chances of survival if their worst fears become a reality. Each 60-minute episode highlights the lives of up to three different preppers, including: Texan Paul Range and his wife Gloria, who constructed a home out of nine shipping containers, and stockpiled over 50,000 lbs. of food in preparation for a day when the North and South Poles swap places; Kellene Bishop, a self-described foodie, who amazes her friends by whipping up a dinner party entirely from shelf-stable foods, proving she won't sacrifice the finer things in a financial disaster; Dennis Evers, who has trained his children with special skills -- fashioning bows and arrows, canning food, and building solar power sources -- to withstand a catastrophic financial collapse; Tim Ralston, a dad in Phoenix, AZ, who is prepared for an electromagnetic pulse attack on America after building a shipping container specially outfitted for survival purposes; Jason Charles, a New York firefighter, who is preparing for the eruption of the Yellowstone super volcano by storing ready-to-eat meals and water in his city apartment; Mike Mester, who involves his whole family in stockpiling food, fuel and weapons; Preston White, who collected 11,000 types of seeds to help him grow his own food after a radioactive disaster; Doug Huffman, who plans to disappear underground into one the many spider holes he has built throughout California's Sierra Nevada Mountains; and many other people planning for doomsday. Nat Geo first aired DOOMSDAY PREPPERS as a 60-minute special on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 10p ET/PT. For the show's second season, Nat Geo aired a special preview episode on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 10pm ET, followed by the official season premiere nine days later, Tuesday, November 13 at 9pm ET. DOOMSDAY PREPPERS returned for its third season on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT on Nat Geo, with a show that focused on two preppers: Curt, who already has an 80-acre off-the-grid estate in Oregon's backcountry and is now turning a regular truck into a high-speed armored vehicle; and Rodney, who is preparing for a cataclysmic earthquake and a towering tsunami in Alaska by devising a tankless scuba system so he can access his unique underwater cache system to sustain his family in a resource-scarce community.

On Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT, Nat Geo aired the Season 4 premiere of DOOMSDAY PREPPERS, immediately following a one-hour special ("Back to Basics" at 8pm) and an afternoon marathon (3-8pm) of encore episodes. In the season opener, "To Fail Is to Die," Jimi Falcon is prepping for a potential World War III, because he believes a major world power will invade and occupy the United States. Cindy Stewart and her family began prepping for a foreign nuclear attack on the U.S. following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, and they now run a taxidermy business, using their taxidermy skills to create camouflaged improvised explosive devices to protect their property. Retired soldier Rod Godfrey reveals the inside of the military-style command and control center he built in his home to protect himself and his loved ones from apocalyptic superstorms.
