Plot Synopsis

DR. K'S EXOTIC ANIMAL ER is a reality series that follows Dr. Susan Kelleher, better known as Dr. K, who owns and operates Broward Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital, one of the busiest exotic animal care practices located in South Florida. After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. K fulfilled her dreams of being warm in the winter by moving to Florida in August of 1995. She spent her first 3-1/2 years in small animal practices in South Florida. As time went on and her following of avian and exotic pets grew, she decided to start her own practice, where she has seen it all: rabbits, reptiles, rodents, birds of all shapes and sizes, foxes, ferrets, fish, marsupials and even primates. Now, in this series, Dr. K, her intern Dr. Lauren Thielen, and her resident Dr. Santiago Diaz treat a variety of unusual animals, from an egg-bound tortoise to a kinkajou with a breathing problem to an ambiguous bush baby that needs neutering or spaying. No two days and no two cases are ever the same at the clinic.

Season 2 of DR. K'S EXOTIC ANIMAL ER premiered on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on Nat Geo Wild. This season, Dr. K and her team see a variety of cases -- from a sulcata tortoise with a neck puncture to a swan that was hit by a truck. In the season opener, "Sir Lynx-a-Lot," it's business as usual at Dr. K's exotic animal E.R., until a stressed-out 10-year-old Eurasian lynx is brought in for over-grooming and not eating. Dr. K suspects a hairball to be the root of the problem and contemplates emergency surgery on the large cat. Dr. Thielen sees two emergency cases of her own, including a ball python that was brutally attacked by a feeder rat, and a rescued cockatiel that needs help laying an egg. A lame baby chicken gets a new lease on life, while a recently neutered pot-bellied pig continues to heal.

On Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT, Nat Geo Wild premiered the third season of DR. K'S EXOTIC ANIMAL ER. In the season opener, "Sumo Dragon," Dr. K helps a bunny with a bad eye and a bleeding Sumo Dragon. Later, she treats a macaw with a mass and a marmoset going into premature labor.

Season 4 of DR. K'S EXOTIC ANIMAL ER premiered on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT on Nat Geo Wild. In the season opener, "Baby Kangaroo Alert!," a desert tortoise needs life-saving surgery, a male prairie dog has a little problem down below and a beloved bunny has a major issue with his anesthesia.

Nat Geo Wild premiered the fifth season of DR. K'S EXOTIC ANIMAL ER on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 9pm ET/PT. Along with her dedicated staff, Dr. Susan Kelleher treats a dynamic array of patients ranging from kangaroos, to monkeys, birds, rabbits, pigs, fish and every imaginable animal in between. In the season opener, "Two Heads Are Better Than One," the vet staff are shocked when a client brings in a baby snake with two heads.

Season 6 of DR. K'S EXOTIC ANIMAL ER premiered on Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 8-10pm ET/PT on Nat Geo Wild, as the cable channel debuted back-to-back new episodes.

The seventh season of DR. K'S EXOTIC ANIMAL ER premiered on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT on Nat Geo Wild, immediately preceded and followed by one-hour specials: "The Incredible Dr. K" (8pm; special): In this "Best Of" special, Dr. K can do it all when it comes to exotics. Watch as she fixes a macaw's splayed legs, does surgery on a fish and discovers a rare problem in a bunny. "Monkey See, Monkey Boo-Boo" (9pm; season premiere): Dr. K helps Marshmallow, a dwarf hamster, who is having trouble breathing. "The Great Snake Escape" (10pm; special): A possibly pregnant boa escapes, a squirrel travels from Texas, and Dr. K's rabbits aren't playing nice.
