Plot Synopsis

Based on the podcast of the same name, DR. DEATH is an anthology drama series, with each season focusing on a different doctor and related systemic failures that allowed that medical professional to kill.

The eight-episode first season is based on the terrifying true story of Dr. Christopher Duntsch, a rising star in the Dallas medical community. Young, charismatic and ostensibly brilliant, Dr. Duntsch was building a flourishing neurosurgery practice when everything suddenly changed. Patients entered his operating room for complex but routine spinal surgeries and left permanently maimed or dead. As victims piled up, two fellow physicians -- neurosurgeon Robert Henderson and vascular surgeon Randall Kirby -- set out to stop him. DR. DEATH explores the twisted mind of Dr. Duntsch and the failures of the system designed to protect the most defenseless among us. Featuring an all-female directing team -- including Maggie Kiley (Episodes 1 & 2), Jennifer Morrison (Episodes 3 & 4) & So Yong Kim (Episodes 5-8) -- all eight episodes of DR. DEATH dropped on Thursday, July 15, 2021 on Peacock, with the first three episodes available for free. DR. DEATH made its linear television debut on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 10pm ET/PT on USA Network.

The entire eight-episode second season of DR. DEATH dropped on Thursday, December 21, 2023 on Peacock. Season 2 follows "Miracle Man" Paolo Macchiarini, a charming surgeon renowned for his innovative operations. When investigative journalist Benita Alexander approaches him for a story, the line between personal and professional begins to blur, changing her life forever. As she learns how far Paolo will go to protect his secrets, a group of doctors halfway across the world make shocking discoveries of their own that call everything about Paolo into question.

On Friday, January 5, 2024 from 8-10pm ET/PT, NBC aired a linear TV sneak peek of DR. DEATH's second season, with back-to-back episodes. In 2012, Dr. Macchiarini performs a breakthrough thoracic surgery, but some colleagues in Sweden question his science; in the present, Macchiarini operates on Hannah and becomes romantically involved with Benita, a news producer covering the surgery. NBC has no other episodes on its schedule
