Plot Synopsis

DIAGNOSIS: DEAD OR ALIVE re-enacts the world's deepest medical mysteries from the perspective of the patient. But is the person's voice from beyond the grave or after full recovery? With each story featuring a rollercoaster ride of red herrings and surprising twists and turns with real life-and-death stakes, this series leaves viewers guessing the outcome of the patient from the very first symptoms through the frantic search for a diagnosis to the very end when the actual person is revealed or the narrator's voice continues through an autopsy. Each 60-minute episode features stories of two subjects, including: Jamie, who is tired and blames her busy schedule until her doctor finds something shocking; David, who suspects he has Lyme disease, based on his joint pain and low stamina -- until he's rushed to ER struggling to breathe; Bonnie, who feels a tingling in her foot but is unable to control the right side of her body days later; Shannon, who thinks she has the flu until her fever spikes to 104 and she blacks out; Jordan, who is a college student in his prime but notices he has bleeding gums and bruises that won't heal; Tannis, who has headaches and high blood pressure that her doctors wrongly chalk up to stress; 50-year-old Kurt, who develops lumps on his body -- seemingly out of nowhere; and Jessica, whose cheek goes numb at her high-school graduation and, months later, feels dizzy and has trouble standing up.
