Plot Synopsis

Best-selling author M. William Phelps, criminal profiler John Kelly and an anonymous serial murderer ("13" in Season 1; "Raven" in Seasons 2 & 3) revisit unsolved homicides believed to be the work of serial killers. Phelps is a best-selling author, crime expert and investigative journalist who has published 20 non-fiction books, and became interest in serial murders in 1996 after he lost his sister-in-law to a suspected serial killer. As the founder of S.T.A.L.K. Inc. (System To Apprehend Lethal Killers), Kelly aids law enforcement in the pursuit of murderers through a comprehensive profiling process. It was through S.T.A.L.K. that Kelly first enlisted the help of "13" to build criminal profiles. With a disguised voice and identity, "13" and "Raven" offer their expert opinions about potential motivations behind these chilling cold cases. Season 1 of this series featured cases like: The Valley Killer from Connecticut River Valley in New Hampshire and Vermont with seven female victims; The Eastbound Strangler from Atlantic City, NJ with four female victims; The Double Initial Murders from Rochester, NY with three child victims aged 10-12 years; The Woodsman from Worcester, MA and York, ME with five female victims; The Babysitter Killer from Detroit with four child victims aged 10-12 years; The Jefferson Davis Parish Murders from Jefferson Davis Parish, LA with eight female victims; The Elderly Serial Murders from Columbus, MS with five victims over the age of 61; and Ned Snelgrove Murders from Newark, NJ with possibly more murders connected to the convicted murderer. DARK MINDS returned for its second season on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 10pm ET, highlighting The Original Night Stalker, a killer who killer stalked suburban streets throughout California, working from Sacramento down to Los Angeles.

Season 3 premiered with a two-hour episode about Alaskan serial killer Israel Keyes on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 8-10pm ET/PT on Investigation Discovery. In March 2012 Keyes was arrested for the murder of Samantha Koenig, which ended more than a decade-long killing spree that followed Keyes. After his arrest, Keyes revealed his sadistic nature to the FBI, alluding to the existence of at least seven possible victims and leading investigators to identify at least two others. But it all ended abruptly when Keyes committed suicide. Since then, investigators have been trying to piece together the details of his disturbing life and the number of innocent lives he has taken. In the Season 3 premiere, Phelps chronicles his year-long investigation into Keyes' life.
