Plot Synopsis

In this series of one-hour documentary specials, Dan Rather files hard-edged field reports, in-depth interviews, and investigative pieces, focusing on the nation's most challenging issues. When DAN RATHER PRESENTS premiered on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 8pm ET/5pm PT on AXS TV, the first special, "One Way Ticket to Nowhere: America's Mental Health Crisis," detailed how the nation currently deals with the mentally ill, while addressing how severe this problem has become for the nation's hospitals, law enforcement agencies, and individual states. For the special, Rather visited Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital in Las Vegas to interview Nevada's Director of Health & Human Services, because the hospital was accused of busing nearly 1,500 patients out of state since 2008. Rather spoke exclusively with former employees, and talked with patients who have come forward for the first time to share their experiences at Rawson-Neal, which has inspired a federal court case and has caused San Francisco to sue Nevada for discharging patients too early. On Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 8pm ET/5pm PT, DAN RATHER PRESENTS returned with the first of three new episodes, kicking off with "A Crisis Inside the Secret Service." In this timely piece, Rather delves into the highly-publicized security breach that occurred when Omar Gonzalez jumped the White House fence, and made his way inside one of the most protected buildings in the world. Cutting to the heart of the matter, Rather sits down with a former Secret Service director, as well as respected scholars, journalists, and others, delivering a no-holds-barred report on a once-proud establishment that is now an agency in crisis. This first-hand account brings to light the real problems within the Secret Service, the ramifications of those problems, and the measures that are being taken to correct them, as Rather seeks to answer the central question: Is the President really safe?
