Plot Synopsis

This spinoff of CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION, which was inspired by Irish Cyberpsychologist Mary Aiken, centers on Avery Ryan, Special Agent in Charge at the Cyber Crime Division of the FBI in Quantico, VA, who is tasked with solving high-octane crimes that start in the mind, live online, and play out into the real world. Special Agent Avery Ryan heads the Cyber Crime Division of the FBI, a unit at the forefront of solving illegal activities that start in the mind, live online, and play out in the real world. She also knows firsthand how today's technology allows people to hide in the shadows of the Internet and commit serious crimes of global proportion. Ryan's supervisor, Assistant Director Simon Sifter, is a shrewd FBI career insider and the clearing house between FBI Cyber and all other branches of government. Also on the team are FBI Agent Elijah Mundo, a self-proclaimed action junkie who is an expert in battlefield forensics; Daniel Krumitz, an introverted tech genius with a quick wit; Brody Nelson, an expat hacker who chose to work for the FBI over a life of cyber-crime; and Raven Ramirez, a rookie tech who is an expert in social media, cyber trends and international relations. While other agents search for criminals in dark homes and alleys, Ryan and her team search the "dark net," a place deep in the bowels of the Web where criminals are anonymous, money is untraceable and where everything is for sale with just a keystroke. CSI: CYBER first appeared as a backdoor pilot on Wednesday, April 30, 2014. In the "Kitty" episode of CSI, the CSIs investigated the cyber-related murder of a prominent casino owner's wife, and received help from the FBI's Cyber Crime Division. CSI: CYBER premiered on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, which CBS dubbed "World CSI Day." Trying to break a world record held by DOCTOR WHO, this global event features a worldwide simulcast of the CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION episode "Kitty", which aired as the planted spin-off for CSI: CYBER. The episode will air in more than 150 countries at 7pm ET (12:00 GMT) and will be streamed in the U.S. on CBS.com from 4pm-Midnight PT. CSI: CYBER returned for it second season on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS, with Ted Danson moving from CSI to this series for the new season as his character, D.B. Russell, transfers to Washington, D.C. from Las Vegas to become the new Director of Next Generation Forensics. In the series opener, "Why-Fi," Avery welcomes D.B. to the team as they investigate a burglary/homicide committed by someone who hacked the home's security system remotely.

Also, Avery and her ex-husband have a heart-to-heart and D.B. considers a future with Greer.
